Soros Crony Taunts David Horowitz

"I'm beginning to wonder who I have to sleep with to make it onto David Horowitz's `Discoverthenetwork.com,'" writes Mark Schmitt. "I might have to switch over to the dark side so I can at least get a slot on John Holbo's hilarious DiscovertheNutwork.com."

Who is Mark Schmitt?

First and foremost, he is the third blogger to gain admission to our "Bloggers from Hell" Hall of Shame (George Soros and ACORN founder Wade Rathke precede him).

Secondly, he is a man with a great deal of spare time on his hands, which his duties as a Senior Fellow at the New America Foundation apparently do not fill. I deduce this from the fact that the lucky Mr. Schmitt not only finds time each day to fill his blog with postings averaging more than 1,000 words in length, but also from the fact that he enjoys browsing silly parody sites such as DiscovertheNutwork.com — something which I have not managed to find time in my busy schedule to do, even though, as a writer and researcher for DiscovertheNetwork, I am one of the people whose work is parodied there.

What sort of paycheck do you suppose a Senior Fellow draws over at the New America Foundation?

Thirdly — judging from Mr. Schmitt's unpersuasive protestations of innocence — I gather that he is a co-conspirator in the Pewgate scandal, the $140-million scheme by a cabal of leftwing foundations to defraud and bamboozle Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court into approving the McCain-Feingold Act, as a result of which every blogger now faces the real possibility of political censorship by the Federal Election Commission (see Mr. Schmitt's disavowal, titled, "Was I Part of `An Immense Scam Perpetrated on the American People'?" — oh, and, while you're at it, be sure to catch the rebuttal by Ryan Sager, the New York Post reporter who broke the Pewgate story: "Name Calling from the Campaign Finance Lobby").

Fourthly, I deduce that Mr. Schmitt harbors seditious fantasies which manifest themselves in the peculiar name he bestowed upon his blog, The Decembrist. Mr. Schmitt says that he gave his blog that name because "I liked the sense of liberalism thriving in dark times…" To find out who the real Decembrists were, go here.

Fifthly and finally, Mr. Schmitt is a Soros crony, having spent eight years of his life in the service of George Soros' Open Society Institute. Mr. Schmitt writes:

"Like the vast majority of bloggers, I let enough of my life in that people know what my job is as well as previous jobs. They probably know that I've worked on one political campaign as an adult, and for eight years drew a paycheck from George Soros's Open Society Institute -- so I'm waiting for the right-wing to start labeling this `the Soros-Funded Decembrist,' as they recently have started doing with David Brock's Media Matters For America, even though Brock is explicitly NOT funded by Soros or his foundation. (In fact, I'm beginning to wonder who I have to sleep with to make it onto David Horowitz's `Discoverthenetwork.com'? I might have to switch over to the dark side so I can at least get a slot on John Holbo's hilarious DiscovertheNutwork.com)."
Mr. Schmitt formerly served as Director of Policy and Research at George Soros' Open Society Institute. Before that, he was first a speechwriter then policy director for Senator Bill Bradley.

As for David Brock, yes, we often refer to him as a "Soros hatchet man" on this blog, and for good reason, as we explained in a post of March 4, 2005, appropriately headlined, "Horowitz Exposes David Brock as Paid Hatchet Man for Soros."

UPDATE 04.11.05: Mr. Schmitt, I have consulted The Boss regarding your question, "[W]ho[m] [do] I have to sleep with to make it onto David Horowitz's DiscovertheNetwork.org?" and he has graciously deigned to reply: Arianna Huffington

Thank God the boss did not deigned to reply: Michael Huffington.

There would have actually been a chance that those two got together.

WOW! WHAT A SICK WORLD!

Heh, good old Mikey and his magic ding - take it away, and the ladies go Left.

I'm surprised that nutwork site was described as "hilarious." It would have been a lot funnier if someone had taken the time to write up little briefs on the people and connect them to one another.

I was hoping to play '6-degrees from Heat Miser' and see what I got. No joy.

Mr Poe I did look at the satire site and you weren't listed . Gargamel from the Smurfs was listed
and other cartoon charachters.

Maybe you should have a special section of DTN called Beavis Blogs.
Once a week we can select a blog for its illucid rantings. One can only be nominated by known friendly commenters.

I checked out that "satire" site as well.

I believe the champions of the English language, Oxford University, should petition them to stop calling the deliberate squander of bandwidth "satire."

OK, I have met Ms. Huffington, and if that's the condition, I think I'll pass.

And your problem with the Decembrists is what, exactly? Had they overthrown the czar and formed a constitutional democracy in 1820, the 20th Century would have been spared all the horrors of Lenin and Stalin.
