J.B. Stoner Dead at 81
Avowed racist and anti-Semite J.B. Stoner died on Wednesday.
In the late 70's Stoner was convicted of the 1958 racially-motivated bombing of the Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. The church was unoccupied at the time. When his appeals ran out in 1983, Stoner went on the lam but eventually turned himself in, serving 3 1/2 years in prison before being paroled in 1986.
When he was 18 years old, Stoner revived a dormant KKK chapter in Tennessee and later formed and headed the Stoner Christian Anti-Jewish Party which strongly opposed the civil rights movement of the 60's.
In 1970, Stoner ran for governor of Georgia and lost. He ran for U.S. Senate in 1972 and for lieutenant governor in 1974, losing both races by wide margins.
Stoner never married. When asked why by an interviewer, he replied that any woman "would be too dumb" for him.
How smart was racist, anti-Semitic Stoner, who considered himself a Christian, hence a believer in the righteousness of Jesus Christ?-- not smart enough to square his misogynistic views with the fact that Jesus was a Jew, and being a Middle Eastern Semite, was likely dark-skinned.
