The Spectre of Rather, The Ghost of Murrow
To his bitter end, Dan Rather steered his career by red stars.
This day, which he selected to celebrate his retirement as Anchor and Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News, is the very date in 1954 that CBS's Edward R. Murrow leveled his notorious propaganda attack against anti-Communist crusader Senator Joseph McCarthy.
History has now documented that McCarthy was more right than wrong, Murrow was more left than right, and the socialist vision Rather and Murrow worshipped is a God that Failed.
As Dan Rather confided, he has held conversations late at night with what he called the "ghost" of Edward R. Murrow in the dark offices at CBS....much as Hillary Clinton conducted her personal seances to commune with the ghost of Eleanor Roosevelt upstairs in the White House.
At least the spectre of Dan Rather will no longer be haunting American televisions five nights each week. Rest In Purgatory, Dan. It's better than where you belong.

Rather was part of a group think culture. The problem is that there is a disconnect between the elite media and the rest of us.
This is the reason the ratings at CBS have tanked. The ratings played a role in this story as well.
wow. that was harsh. dan rather is an american who loved his country. you or i might disagree with someone's politics, but to dam them to hell for it?

A few highly subjective observations:
McCarthy was dead right about the communist threat.
Murrow was right about McCarthy's tactics.
Rather isn't qualified to shine either man's shoes.
Rather was nothing less than a fraud. He represented himself as an objective reporter but was, in fact, a second rate political hack who ran what was arguably the most wretchedly biased news room in the USA.
Love of country is not enough, you need to know what parts of the country a man loves. Rather loved government, and his reporting continually favored expanded government presence in our lives. More taxes, gun control, mass transit, and more business regulation.
Rather is part of the dead past where a man with a network behind him could perpetrate any kind of deception. As he staggers off into his self-made oblivion we should celebrating a new era when the fast, inexpensive transmission of facts makes it impossible for another unaccountable fraud to control the news.

Let's look at Rather ten years from now and weigh his faults against his virtues. It seems all people do on the right is lash out and label their enemies just like their hero McCarthy. One conservative intellectual said McCarthy's greatest misdeed was that he singlehandedly blackened anti-Communism in the public's eye!

do you really think dan rather belongs in hell? do you really think HRC should go there to? how many senate democrats should go to hell?
how about we go back to the day where we attack our opponents ideas? and if we do attack their motives, maybe we should refrain from using damnation so freely.
i don't know what type of church you go to, but at mine i don't hear damnations tossed out at newscasters we don't like.

Sir, just on their enabling of infanticide alone, will most certainly earn them some time in purgatory, or hell for eternity.
However, it is not my call!
