Reducing Black Folks to Beasts

In an interview about his forthcoming book on Bill Cosby, Professor Michael Eric Dyson remarks:

"None of us want our children to be murderers or thieves. But Cosby never acknowledges that most poor blacks don't have a choice about these things."
Don't have a choice about being murderers or thieves? How degrading is that, to have one's will denied and reduced to the moral status of a beast? Dyson is the Avalon Foundation Professor of the Humanities at the University of Pennsylvania, and has been hailed by Naomi Wolf as "the ideal public intellectual of our time."

There are no questions about it.

The left has decimated the black community through condescension and the bigotry of low expectations.

J. Edward Tremlett, one of our resident southpaws, I would believe, refers to these BLACKS as part of the "tiny people," desperately in need of his magnificents.

First off, why didn't you show the entire Dyson instead of the piece you used to make your racist point.

Secondly, most of the black community is working to middle classed and law abiding.

Thirdly, young inner city males don't have a lot of options outside the underworld.

America and it's racism can thank itself for that.

The thinking that says "America and its racism can thank itself for [the fact that] young inner city males don't have a lot of options outside the underworld" does historical analysis (if you can call it that) following an unhelpful pattern of perversely self-gratifying blaming.

History is history. Trans-atlantic slave trade was barbaric. Slavery is and was always wrong. Jim Crow was wrong. Good moral direction helped us to end them all in the USA.

History is history; we can't change it. Historical events brought us to the point where we are now. And not to say there are no potential remedies or "reparations", but the main thing has to be to move forward. The best way forward is to work within the framework that each of us makes decisions, and we are individually responsible for them.

Each of us does in fact have options. It is not all right to choose crime. Civilization must always send that message. Local communities and parents sending that message can change behaviors.

Daftness rears its leftist head again.

Can we thank "American racism" for black success stories too, or does that make your brain short-circuit?

My girlfriend has this professor for a class on Tupac here at UPENN... very pithy stuff I'm sure.

I guess the only blacks worthy of being criticized are conservatives. Poor blacks are exempt from any moral responsiblities.

If it takes a vilagte to raise a child, according to the faux African proverbs, then black villages must be pretty crummy places. They fail at school and turn to crime, like anyone else, cause they lack any moral capacity and their immediate society, "village" is an amoral vice ridden thuga-city. Blame the Dysons, Mumias and Tupacs of the black world for constantly excusing, justifying and glorifying black crime and failure for this will insure more will end up in prison or dead in the gutter!

Dyson is a poster child for all that is hopelessly wrong with the culture of victimization.

"...most poor blacks don't have a choice about these things."

Seldom have I read such a subjectively wrongheaded opinion being presented as fact. Phooey.

If Dyson wants a picture of a true racist, he needs only to look in a mirror. But I'm sure he is doing just fine in university life; his bizarre negativity on race and society fits right in with the views of his loopy leftist colleagues.

Oh I see according to Cosby only blacks are allowed to be criminals because of their "POOR" situation. The gaff here is that as usual the left only associates substandard living conditions with "black" folks. When in fact the overwhelming majority of poor people in this country are NOT "black", when in fact most of them are Caucasian. I am very sick of hearing about the poor down trodden "black folks" and that they are in such a state because of "whitey" This is total lies and crap from a bunch of race baiters on the left. The Johnny Cockrans of the world are sick self loathing people with nothing but hate of all things supposedly "white". Poor black people in the country are poor because of the same reasons anyone else in this country is poor. Poor education re-enforced by poor family and ethical values leads to poor performance and poverty. PERIOD.
BTW it is not the governments job at any level to correct these situations. It is duty of the local community to deal with these problems and solve them. I suggest the black community get it's act together and correct these egregious lies regurgitated by BIll (Baloney) Cosby and his socialist ilk.

Huh?

Bill Cosby is no socialist. He rejects the "I'm a hopeless black man" argument, as well as the glorification of criminal culture in black music.

Your comments would make sense had you aimed them at this Professor Dyson character, who is criticizing Cosby.
