We're off to a good start

We've had over 11 million hits at DiscovertheNetwork.org in the last eleven days, 3 million page views and 264,000 visitors. Not bad for a new siteour Individuals picture grid. We've had lots of complaints from the left, and about 10,000 postings about the site on the Web.

The focus of these complaints has been about how we define the left, and in particular how our database can include Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and Ward Churchill alongside Democratic Party politicians like Ted Kennedy and Harold Ickes. This in itself is a success of the project. As a result of the "publication" of DiscoverTheNetwork, we are now talking about the "left," not a meaningless designation like "liberal."

We are looking at the relationship between the American left and our enemies in the war on terror. Leftists like to think that if they denounce Saddam Hussein, if they decry his prison for four to twelve year olds, his gassing of the Kurds, his mass graves, his support for terrorists -- and let's face it, we don't hear a lot of this decrying from leftwing quarters -- then they get a pass when it comes to taking Saddam down. They opposed the war against him; if they had been successful, he would still be in power. But leftists like to comfort themselves with the thought that they are critical of him rhetorically. What they actually did doesn't matter.

Doesn't it? Would leftists give the same pass to a conservative who was rhetorically critical of the apartheid regime in South Africa, but went out into the streets to stop a U.S. military action to take that government down? I don't think so.

The left has done the same tactics they decry for years. Bush, Sharon and Reagan were compared to Hitler.
Almost every action is compared to Vietnam and the others to WW2 Germany.
The left complains about almost everything . They complain about ridiculous items for example sports mascots. I would love a team to be named the accountants or Tree surgeons.
How does one take these people seriously.

I LOVE the site! Perhaps you could find a way to rate the individuals' degree of "leftness" and position their photos based on the profilee's particular rating--e.g., at the lower end of the scale, misguided liberal, useful idiot, fellow traveler, apologist, moving up to hardcore enabler of murderous totalitarian leftist regimes, etc.

The fact, which leftists cannot recognize let alone acknowledge, is that the "misguided liberal", while more morally innocent than Stalin himself, is just at the lower end of a spectrum the deepest end of which is pure evil. That murderous end of the spectrum has simply taken the underlying premises of the "milder" forms of collectivism to their logical conclusion.

In my humble opinion.

The left protests too much, methinks.

Or....

Transparency, thy name is leftist.

It's all rather reminiscent of a dog sitting on the spot where his bone is buried. Except that I like dogs.

I love this sight. I am learning a lot. As far as the liberal left, and the DNC, I have noticed they want to keep the wool pulled over everyones eyes, this sight shines the light on those things they don't want the right to know,so they can continue to deceive.
So keep up the great work.

Remember, there's always hope for a misguided Lefty.

I remember voting for Dukakis, writing term papers on the evil Ronald Reagan, and supporting California's Big Green initiative. My view saw the United States as greedy aggressors against the poor, misunderstood, idealistic USSR.

I wasn't stupid and I wasn't evil. I was simply never exposed to a coherent explanation of modern conservative philosophy. I had liberal parents, liberal teachers, listened to liberal music, and watched liberal TV and movies. It was beyond my comprehension how ANYONE could be a Republican or a Conservative, and still manage to tie their own shoes or look at themselves in the mirror.

We must approach the Misguided Lefty as a fellow mind and spirit that has been subjected to an onslaught of Lies and has been starved of Reason.

We must approach the Committed Lefty (such as those who adorn the pages of discoverthenetwork.com) as the enemies of the American Proposition. They know of what they speak.

They are motivated by Envy, and they wish to drag the human spirit down into their personal gutters with them, where they can at last reign as Kings and Queens, even it is only over a kingdom of human suffering and misery.

It is in this agenda that Osama Bin Laden, as he stated himself, found an ally with which his agenda "coincides".

My apologies for not providing links to quotations or websites as others do. I'm a rookie at this blogging thing, but I'm trying to get educated.

Very well said, orangeducks.

I'm sure a number of us have a dark period in our pasts. I flirted with leftism during the mass insanity of the LBJ years, but emerged from the darkness without too many emotional scars. I cut my hair, got a real job, and left behind the fantasy world of socialism and unilateral pacifism.

In my case that emergence was called growing up. Too many of my tie-dyed fatty-rolling microbus-driving flower-power contemporaries have simply never grown up, and continue to play in their make-believe socialist utopian sandbox.

Thanks for defining lefty! Now I understand better. I'd like you to include some other lefties:

Ronald Reagan - of the terrorists we are now fighting, he said they are the "Moral equivalent of our founding fathers."

Oliver North - sold U.S. guided missiles to the Iranian mullahs, a regime bent on our destruction and actively seeking it through terrorism. We used to execute people for such things.

Whoever decided that we should not pursue A.Q. Khan. For a guy who spread nuclear weapons technology to the Axis of Evil and beyond, the way he walked you'd think he worked for Enron.

I'm sure there's more. But outing these three lefties would do this country a world of good.

Regards,

Your Fellow American

The art of misdirection is used to great advantage by magicians, getting the audience to focus on something away from the real action just long enough to pull a fast one. It's entertaining in that venue.

Misdirection in a political discussion usually involves bringing in people, things or subjects unrelated to the discussion, for example, let's say, bringing up Oliver North, in hopes of deflecting attention from the actual topic. Misdirection isn't entertaining in these cases; it's just a sign of desperation.

Your Fellow American aptly demonstrates what happens when a confused mind [leftist] speaks out on a subject matter for which he is uninformed: it results in bovine fecal matter. Soooo, we're now fighting the Contras? Wow! who'da thunk it.....

Is there some reason you are leaving out notorious Anti-Bush Anti-War Anti-Patriot Act Pro-Civil Liberties Lew Rockwell and the Von Mises Institute?

What was the topic again, Redbeard?

Oh, yes, how evil the American Left is by giving in to the continual baying of the Right to say something critical about Saddam at the same time as decrying the mess the present administration is making in the Middle East.

Oh, yeah, misdirection. I get it.

Misdirection and lack of direction are actually different things, usually practiced by different sets of people on the left. Some leftists are accomplished at both, which is no mean feat.

The original topic is about the wailing and gnashing of teeth coming from the left over the DTN website. Ok, then. Game, set, match.
