Reds Threaten President

Of Harvard that is. The totalitarian mindset of the faculty left is on display at Harvard University where President Larry Summers, former Clinton Cabinet member, finds himself unaccustomedly on his knees, unctuously apologizing to the commissars of female political correctness. This for the perfectly reasonable observations he made that foolishly deviated from the party line. The gist of the observations was this: men are different from women. Even their brains are different.

Not according to the totalitarian and mindless feminists at Harvard and their pathetic faculty supporters. Intellectually and morally pathetic, but not -- unfortunately -- in terms of their power in the institution. Where, by the way, are the defenders of free speech at Harvard? Perhaps they've all gone to Boulder for the week.

By any standard of reason the feminist harridan who walked out of the room where Summers made his observation should have been fired or put on probation for violating the fundamental principle of a university: that civil exploration of ideas should be the prevailing academic discourse. Instead, in Cambridge the shrill are triumphant while the rest of us watch in awe as authority grovels before ignorant passion. Now the Harvard corporation has weighed in begging that the head of its King be spared). But the academic Jacobins will not be appeased until tribute is paid -- perhaps in the form of a new building for the Women's Studies Department, the source from which this anti-intellectual witch-hunt has sprung.
