Paul Begala Slams Horowitz and his New Web Site on CNN's Crossfire
Long-time Clinton operative turned talk-show host Paul Begala lashed out angrily last night at David Horowitz and his new Web site DiscovertheNetwork.org. Begala said on CNN's Crossfire:
"Well, speaking of -- speaking of conservatives, the conservative activist David Horowitz has a new Web site with photographs of 72 people, ranging from terrorists to congressmen, as if somehow they're all linked in a vast left-wing conspiracy called, get this, the network.Note that Begala failed to give our Web address on the air - in the process violating standard journalistic procedure when discussing a Web site; depriving his viewers of the chance to see and judge DTN for themselves; and finally demonstrating - as if any further proof were needed – that Mr. Begala has no class.
"So, I looked at the Web site. Does it mean that former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta is somehow linked to terrorist leader Khalid Shaikh Mohammed? Is Senator Barack Obama of Illinois connected to the 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta, whose picture is there? Or maybe Barbra Streisand is in league with Ayatollah Khomeini. They're both pictured there, but that would be a neat trick, since Khomeini has been dead for 15 years.
"And then there's Al Sharpton. He's pictured right next to the terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, although I doubt Reverend Sharpton has ever treated Zarqawi to the pork sausage at Sylvia's Soul Food in Harlem. So, could it be also that actors Martin Sheen and Mike Farrell somehow could be connected to Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and Ramzi Yousef? After all, they're all on the same page, all photographed on his Web site.
"And thank God Mr. Horowitz has uncovered the conspiracy before it's too late. But somebody get a coat and -- a coat with no cuffs and a net. The right wing has gone stark-raving mad, Joe [Watkins], because they're out of their minds."

Paul Begala's statements only prove that he did not actually read anything on the site. Perhaps if he had bothered to employ the part of his brain responsible for reading, he would have understood why various activists were pictured amongst terrorists. Kudos to Mr. Begala, however, for not letting a cursory glance at the website prevent him from relegating an entire political group "stark-raving mad."
I would be quite flattered to have my website slammed by Mr. Begala. It would be a sure sign that I was doing it right.
So a picture of Bush next to Hitler does not actually equate the two? Man, we were sure upset over nothing!
Ilya offers quite a good suggestion, i.e. to actually read the website.
This reading business can be a tiring affair to some, but once accomplished, it should become clear to all but the most radical leftists (to whom nothing much in life is clear) that the various individuals pictured are not being equated at all.
This website explains itself in a scholarly fashion, and is presented in a somewhat more civilized manner than the presentations by the lunatic left which really do try to equate Bush with Hitler. Painting swastikas on Mr. Bush's likeness and carrying crudely lettered signs saying "Bush is Hitler" leave little doubt as to the intellectual shortcomings of the far left.
The left has no sense of humor. Hillary started this with her claims about a vast right wing conspiracy. It is so vast I still can't find it.
The website never claims these people are connected. It does have alot of good info. It is a reference for the normal folks about the perfidity of the radicals.
