The New Israeli Target of the Pro-Terror Left

Nothing so clearly illustrates the nature of the pro-terror Left than the newest round of assault and libel against Dan Halutz, who was just named Israeli army chief-of-staff.

The Left is libeling him as a "war criminal." Leftwing blogs are full of such charges. Some examples include this or this or this. The Counterpunch pogromchiks have attacked him. Some of Israel's own self-hating leftists put him on mock trial.

The anti-Jewish Left dislikes Halutz because Halutz used to command the air force. While he was commander there, the air force offed a large number of terrorist leaders. In one such hit, a large bomb was used against some Hamas terror leaders, and the bomb also killed some civilians in a nearby building. This makes Halutz a war criminal in the "minds" of the Left. You know, unlike those Palestinians who send suicide bombers into Israeli cities by the dozens.

On the night of July 22, 2003, an Israeli F-16 dropped a one-ton bomb in a densely populated area of Gaza City, killing Hamas military wing leader Salah Shehadeh and sixteen others, of whom fifteen were civilians, including Shehadeh’s own wife and child.

In a Ha’aretz interview, then-Israeli Air Force Commander Major General Dan Halutz claimed to be satisfied both "militarily and morally" with the operation. God bless him for that! He maintained that the "the decision-making process was right, balanced, proper and cautious," although he admitted there was a "problem…with the information" on which the attack was based.

Let me speak plainly. When Israel bombs terror leaders operating with the blessing and protection of the PLO, and civilians get hurt in the process, the responsibility and blame should properly fall on the PLO and its apologists, not on Dan Halutz. If the PLO had not kept such people operating, no targeted assassinations of the Islamofascists by Israeli choppers and planes would have been necessary. Halutz is a war criminal in exactly the same sense as were FDR and Churchill every time civilians in Berlin got hurt from Allied bombing in WWII. In others words, he is not.

The war criminals responsible for Palestinian civilians getting hurt are the Palestinian Islamofascists and their leftist amen chorus, urging the terrorists on to ever greater violence.

But what about the lefties calling Halutz names? The campaign by the Left inside Israel is being led by the seditious leftist organization Yesh Gvul. Israel has a law making it a crime to insult public officials! Call Shimon Peres a twit and see what happens to you! It is also libelous to call Halutz a murderer. Don't hold your breath waiting for any arrests though. Leftist inciters never get arrested in Israel. Theirs is protected free speech, unlike that of anti-Oslo dissidents.

Ordinarily Yesh Gvul devotes its efforts to organizing insubordination and mutiny among Israeli soldiers in order to make it easier for the Arabo-fascist world to destroy Israel. Yesh Gvul urges its members to refuse to serve in the Israeli army or follow orders. Several Yesh Gvul members have had their wrists slapped in court for this. Yesh Gvul has large ads in the papers today (bet you a week's salary the extremist leftist anti-Zionist "New Israel Fund" is paying for them), defaming Dan Halutz as a murderer and war criminal.
