Is Counterpunch Merging with the Zundelsite?
The growing similarity between the Far Left and the Neonazi Right has been striking in recent years. Both are pro-terror, anti-American and rabidly anti-Semitic. Both promote conspiracy theories in which "neoconservative" Jews appear as the villains. In addition, both are increasingly using the similar propaganda tactics, such as rounding up self-hating Jewish leftists and showcasing their rantings against Israel.
A review of Alexander Cockburn's Counterpunch in recent months reveals telling similarities to the Zundelsite of convicted Canadian nazi Ernst Zundel. For example, both insist that Jews were behind the 9-11 attacks and that Jews assassinated the ex-Prime Minister of Lebanon recently. Both want Israel destroyed. Both see nothing wrong with calling for Israel's annihilation or cheering on terrorists who murder Jews en masse. And both regret sincerely that the Holocaust gave anti-Semitism such a bad name.
Counterpunch editor Cockburn has a long history of spouting open anti-Semitism, as do many of his regular columnists, including Ward Churchill himself. Cockburn now is back with his Zundel impression, ranting on about "Jewish influence", and in particular attacking Dr. Daniel Pipes. Pipes is not the sort of Jew that Cockburn likes. (Or is it Burncock - I always get so confused!) Instead Cockburn prefers running on his Web site a set of self-hating Israeli leftists, the Israeli equivalents of Ward Churchill. These include people like Yitzhak Laor, praising Chomsky's Jew-hating "academic" protege Tanya Reinhart, or Uri Avnery, Israel's answer to Lord Haw-Haw, and Israeli lecturer Neve Gordon, whose anti-Semitic screeds appear on Counterpunch and the Zundelsite alike.
Using self-hating Jews to demonstrate one's "balance" or "objectivity" is a bit like running pieces by such American patriots as Taliban John, Ward Churchill and Noam Chomsky alongside those of Taraq Ramadan and Bin Laden, in order to claim that you have included the "American" point of view.
Self-hating Israeli anti-Semites are no more representative of Jews or Israelis than Ward Churchill is representative of Americans. The Israeli Zinns and Chomskys, the self-hating seditious "academics" of Israel, are "outted" at a new Web site, Israel Academia Monitor, which is a cousin of Campus Watch in the US.

This is precisely why I have always had a bit of trouble using a one dimensional left/right scale to define political positions. Within the context of these discussions, the term leftist is fine, as we all know what it means. But in the broader context, that designation is incorrect, at least when taken as being a sort of an opposite to what we commonly call the right.
A more accurate scale would be two dimensional, with the graph looking like a narrow inverted letter Y. The top of the chart represents freedom and human dignity, and the bottom represents despotism and hate. At the bottom, the left prong of the inverted Y represents the people highlighted on DTN, while the right prong represents their hate-filled traveling companions in the KKK, Aryan Nations, etc.

Holocaust denier Ernest Zundel is to be deported from Canada and sent back to Germany, according to a Canadian Federal court ruling.
The court's ruling follows a lengthily legal struggle.
The judge said his ruling was based upon the assumption Zundel's racist beliefs are not only a threat to Canadian national security, but a threat to the entire international community too.
For many years Zundel has denied the holocaust existed, claiming the Jews have mercilessly used it to extort money from the German government.
Holocaust denial punishable by incarceration
Zundel has been living in Canada for the past 40 years. For the past two years he has been held in solitary confinement in a Toronto prison.
German authorities said they plan to arrest Zundel upon his return to Germany, on charges of state law violations and denying the Holocaust.
An official German source, who asked to remain anonymous, said they were also investigating whether Zundel is behind an internet site bearing his name, which publishes controversial content.
"It will take some time to investigate all the suspected offenses," he said, explaining that Holocaust denial is a federal offense in Germany and punishable by incarceration.
Zundels' lawyer Peter Lindsay said he did not expect the deportation to happen for at least another week or two, to enable him to appeal the court's decision.
